Lipsy and Lovely

I realise that my blog had a bit of a wobble recently, i.e. I got on my soap box like I was running for Prime Minister, then I almost got killed off by a crazed lung-bug and all I could blog about was me in my slippers in A&E. And then it went quiet.

How very rude of me!

So despite my exhaustion (to be explained later) I wanted to do a quick post about something a bit lighter and, to be honest, nicer – fashion!

I know I moaned at length about moving myself and my son home to live with my parents, but there will be a few perks that we’ve agreed on as 3 adults to keep ourselves sane. One of those is making an effort to go out and socialise more, to find our own space and time to relax. This is an enticing thought except that the “big move” is this weekend and I own precisely ‘zero’ clothes to go out in. I own a black dress I keep for funerals and that is it. So I’m not one of those annoying women who moans that I have “nothing to wear” when actually I just have so much I can’t choose. I can use the phrase literally, swear on oath and I won’t go to Hell (not for that anyway).

In preparation (because I’m super-organised) for my return to the dance floors of this great city, I went hunting online for a nice dress that wouldn’t break the already-crippled bank account. I turned to old favourite Next and, for the first time ever, looked through their Lipsy London range. I’d always passed this off as either too young for me or too expensive. Or usually both. But I was surprised to look through the sale items and see quite a few nice dresses that I felt, at the grand old age of 28, I could still pull off. And I bought this one, a nude and black panelled body-con/bandage number, for just £22.50!

Apologies for the dodgy photos, I’ll have much better mirrors in my mum’s house (ah the perks are increasing with every passing day!) And when I saw what this stretchy little bargain dress did for my tum and bum, I was “perked” up no end (I’m giving you puns and everything here, perhaps my brain works better when it’s over-tired…)

As for the tiredness I keep moaning on about. That’s down to a fun-but-full day’s work at the Style at Stormont fashion show in aid of Action Mental Health.

I hadn’t worked a fashion show before and I have a new-found appreciation for the teams that do it – you wouldn’t believe what it takes to make it a success. I have, however, attended fashion shows before and, without being biased (me? Never!), it really was one of the best! The beautiful venue was served well by the beautiful models and the stunning clothes which were a piece of art in themselves. Styled by Jemma Cousins, the Personal Stylist at House of Fraser in Victoria Square, Belfast. There was an orange dress in particular that I think made me dribble down my top… anyway, I know my Lipsy dress is in the sale and so the colours are past season but I’m hoping the panelling style might still be current as I saw a bit of it on the runway for Spring/Summer 2013 (picture courtesy of Stephen Potter photography):

But I’m off to bed now to rest my weary bones. My inherited achy back-bones in particular (thanks Mum!) after 2 hours bent over filling goody bags for all the guests:

And they were very lucky guests indeed, each getting a tester of celeb-fav beauty product Crème de la Mer (also available at House of Fraser). At around £300 per 100 ml depending on the product, I’d say the tester alone was worth the ticket price!

So the guests are beautiful, I’m sore, and it’s all in the name of supporting and promoting a great charidee. Picture in t’paper, PR job done! 🙂
