Mummy: Slummy or Yummy?

Week one of 2013 is done and I’m well and truly on the “reformed wardrobe” bandwagon… err, sort of.

What I mean is, I’m TRYING (and that’s what counts right?!) I have 2 problems that I’m blaming on my short falls to date. The first is the headache that has been my online shopping experience in this year’s Sales.

I’m a huge fan of online shopping normally. OK, it’s a bit of a pain not being able to try stuff on and then having to haul yourself to stores or Post Offices to return things. But in general, it’s comfortable, quick and stops me making impulse buys! And Christmas montary gifts meant I could really kick-start my reformed wardrobe with new purchases.

This year I was lucky enough to get a VIP slot in the Next Sale, Next being one of my fail-safe stores for everything from work wear to homeware, and I set my alarm eye-wateringly early on 23rd December to shop (5.45am!) Disappointingly, there was little for me and although I got a lovely bedset I’m STILL waiting for it to be delivered…

Then I enjoyed the wonders of my favourite shop: h&m (bearing in mind I want to BE “Mrs h&m” so I planned to make a good few purchases here). Not much caught my eye in the sales, however I did find a beautiful Spring coat and black suede ankle boots – the cheslea/western style which I believe, from my research, is in fashion! Not only am I still waiting for these items, apparently it will be the middle of February before I can start rocking my parka-come-biker-jacket 😦

Lastly, I tried New Look, another fail safe store for me (although I can be swayed by on-trend items that I don’t have the wardrobe to back-up so I am careful to stick to the basics here). I ordered a handful of peplum style tops, a style I haven’t tried yet, and none of them suited. Fair enough I thought, but when I returned them I was told I could only get a credit note because I had used Paypal to make the online purchase instead of my store card. So I used the £27 credit note to buy their £4.99 basic tops in a few different colours and hopefully these will be a good staple in the new wardrobe.

Anyway, enough moaning about the Sales, we’ll make up and I’ll love them again mid-season! The second reason why I’m struggling to avoid the old comfies is the school run. It’s cold, it’s stressful, I’m tired and on the 2 days a week when I don’t work I know I’m heading straight back home to clean (code word for ‘watch Jeremy Kyle’!) So my look has ranged between chav-gangstarap-teenybopper to middle-aged-horse-rider. I haven’t cracked it yet but I’m sure you’ll agree that leaning more to the second option is probably a safer bet if I want people, including my 4-year old, to take me seriously!
